Doesn't hold up (spoilers)

I saw this movie as a kid in the theater a few times and loved it. But a recent DVD viewing bored me to tears. After the first coaster derailement, NOTHING ELSE HAPPENS! It's not even all that suspenseful. Great soundtrack, though.

That's the beauty of these 1970's movies. I've been watching a whole whack of them lately and each one of them is unique in their own way. They didn't need top paid actors, they didn't need CGI effects and the story lines are all plausible (compared to say, Terminator). There are no cheesy lines needed, no big showdown martial arts fight needs to take place at the end or the bad guy dying in some dramatic explosion. I love the old buildings, the old cars and the old way of life when people socialized rather than stared into cell phones.

--You nailed it with those comments! I prefer movies from any time period where people are talking and interacting with one another--those are the timeless qualities that make a good story....not the special effects (which, obviously, can be fun, too).
