Setting?
At least the city setting seems fairly close to when this movie was made, though the lack of human settlement in the bayou (and the way the animal denizens dress) seem slightly less so.
Some sources claim that this film is the either the fourth (or second, if only "101 Dalmatians" was set at the time of its initial release, and "Dumbo" and "Bambi" were not; with no visible human characters in the latter, it's particularly ambiguous) Disney film to be set at the time of its making, which would be circa 1977. However, my mom guessed it may have been a decade or two earlier (Medusa's *hem* "eyelashes" and her "sleazy" way of dressing, made her think it was either the earlier 1970's or even the '60's). Is their any clear indication on when exactly this film is precisely set, or are we just left to do the math ourselves. In fact, apart from "The Aristocats" and "The Great Mouse Detective" (1910 and 1897, respectively) most Disney animated films don't say exactly when they're set, we're just supposed to assume the setting is whenever, either due to "Word of God" or the way the characters dress and what not.
At very least, "The Rescuers" is FAR from as heavily dated as "Oliver & Company" is. Don't get me wrong, it's an OK film, but...YEESH! on being ridiculously dated, and not just by the two towers intact in its skyline...
