Who are we supposed to be rooting for here?

The Orca or Richard Harris?

I could ruin this film with spoilers, so I've deleted everything I've just wrote there.

Basically, who was the bigger "bad" guy and who was the "good" guy? Thanks there!

Not sure who we are supposed to be rooting for here. But I will say one thing. The Orca seems to know his way around a glacier. Somehow I think that if it comes to an Ice Bucket Challenge, the Orca will emerge the winner!

I kept expecting the Orca to sprout legs and start carrying an uzi. The movie felt like "Death Wish" for Marine Animals. As for who was worse... I just don't know.

The bad guy is whoever wrote the script.
The good guys were the actors who managed to speak some of the silliest dialogue lines without breaking into laugh.
Still a fun movie to watch. It was my favorite movie when it came out, but of course, I was very young at the time.

The screenwriters were Luciano Vincenzoni, who co-wrote "For a Few Dollars More" and "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly," and Sergio Donati, who co-wrote "The Big Gundown," "Once Upon a Time in the West," and "Duck You Sucker."

I think Ennio Morricone did the soundtrack also.

reply

Yes, he did, but we weren't talking about the music.

reply

Morricone did soundtrack work on some of the films you cited. I’m illustrating that there may also be more in common than screenwriters. Please forgive me of it was off topic.

reply

You weren't supposed to be rooting for either, only trying to understand them and learn from their mistakes.

Neither I guess

I was rooting for a better storyline. The studio obviously wanted to parlay the success of that other "big fish" blockbuster involving a Great White Shark, but they forgot to create a more compelling story. Instead, we get a mini-Moby Dick and they missed out on having Bo Derek swimming naked with her flotation devices piercing the waves like mini-volcanoes

I was rooting for all those on the boat to make it out alive except Nolan. His fate was sealed.
