Another embarrassment from the 70's

Truly awful. Cheap sets. Horrendous acting to even worst dialogue. Just plain stupid. I don't know how I survived that decade. All my friends constantly drooling over crap like this. Thank you mom & dad for refusing to let this play on our set and raising me on historical dramas and documentaries. Juvenile humor ruled that decade and the millennial's are the result.

reply

Yes it was VERY pretty, big, JIGGLY rubbish!

I LOVE trash! “Nobody ever went broke by underestimating the taste of the American public” - H. L. Mencken. Did your parents neglect to teach you that, OP?

I’m calling you out, OP. You’ve not made ONE reply to the topic you started. This show is the epitome of awful—and also the epitome of American culture. Prithee, emerge and eviscerate US culture for us.

reply

No need to call anyone out on this R. Most of my complaints have been confirmed if not expanded upon. I might add that constant "head turn" shots are juvenile too.
I will say it again, most of the sitcoms of the 70's are painful to watch now. This and Welcome Back Kotter being the worst in my opinion.

reply

They slobbering all over this show is staggering to me. It is dogshit.

reply

I agree with you. I've watched it out of boredom. But if you have a choice there was so much better, even among tv sitcoms. And yeah, the fact it became so popular is a testament to the banality of American tv.

There was almost no substance to the main characters, Jack and Chrissy. They were very one dimensional.

reply

In the '70s I actually used to look forward to watching it every week. Today, I can't remember or imagine why. Even Suzanne's big tits aren't enough to make it watchable.

reply

So a few of you let us know that you HATE this show without telling us what you consider to be a fine, high quality sitcom from that era. What is it you love? One Day at a Time, Diff-rnt Strokes? Laverne and Shirley? Some English sitcom on PBS? Fill us in loL

reply

Good point. In my opinion the 70's had better dramas. Especially historical ones. Attitudes changed after the 60's and people became incredibly pessimistic and overly opinionated to the point where trying to discuss differences labeled a person weak and expendable. It hasn't gotten much better. We went from witty cynicism to outright rude and insulting opinionated comedy fueled by lies and selfish pride.

reply

Off the top I can think of two much better sitcoms from that era, "Taxi" and "Good Times".

And as for British sitcoms? They're all better than "Three's Company".

reply

Man About the House was the original British version that Threes Company was based on. I like both versions but the Brits in general were always more bawdy with their humor.

reply

I agree wholeheartedly. American tv is always about mass consumption and appealing to the lowest common denominator. British tv relies on adult humor. As you said, bawdy.

reply

L&S was always about nothing for me.

reply

This wasn't intended to win an Emmy. It was just pure comic fun.

A tv show made purely for entertainment?? It must have been the 70's and 80's.

You need a Love Boat marathon
