How offensive

I wonder how offensive was this show's premise back when it came out. The fact that Jack had to pretend he was gay in order to live with the girls. Seems to me it would be something that would make this show be unable to be played in re runs even..

Just a thought, I came across the show on YouTube.

If I were Jack I would have been doing Chrissy every night!

The premise was anachronistic in 1976. Unmarried people of the opposite sex lived together. No laws prohibited it. Especially in California.

Maybe the Ropers as owners had a problem and that was unrealistic as landlords want the property rented.

My question is why didn't jack have any male friend to room with? Oh, because it was a 70's sit com.

It might have been risque if it had been a drama, but not really as a sitcom.

The show wouldn't even work now the idea of a man living with 2 women he isn't involved with wouldn't be a big deal.

At the time though they needed a premise to make the show work and that was it. Although it is ironic the landlord was ok with him being gay. You would think being offended by A would make you offended at B too.

I saw the show in the '70s when it was new. It was considered corny, and juvenile, and silly, and even just plain bad, but it was not considered offensive. In general, people were not as uptight then as they are now.

The real offensive thing I remember reading was a guy living with two girls. It was still considered taboo back then. It "shocked" the tv world.
