Ok, I'm from the US and happened to catch this show one day, although I will admit that Tony Sympson was awesome in the eposide Beauty of the Beast, wow, overall this show is pathetic! Do people in England really watch this trash?? Wow, ever heard of special effects, comedy and/or entertainment?? Have you ever sat back, watched this show, then watched 24 or Lost or even Brady Bunch and then compared them, this show was horrible! Please, I'm curious as to what you find so good about this show! Wow, and also, would it hurt having a hot chick in the show? I mean come on, it was like a sausage fest with old guys and unattractive old women!!!!
I hope someday this show "falls through the stool". Best Regards, SympsonFan
This was a fine programme set in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales unlike some of the trash our Yank idiot's have produced. Most of their stuff is aimed at the lowest common denominators of human life. Their comedies are about as funny as a landmine under a school bus and their dramas are all posing and special effects with no decent plot. All Creatures was fundamentally about real people and situations in a bygone time. Who's Brad Pitt anyway. I think I know his brother Cecil. I suggest our septic tank friend goes back to his trailer and watches repeats of The Rockford Files instead.
I live in an Asian country and have just finished watching all the episodes of Season 1 of 'All Creatures Great and Small' and still eager for more. I saw it only on youtube because I don't think I'll ever see it on dvd or the BBC rerun on tv at anytime since British shows like this one almost never come around here in my place. I'm saving so I can order some dvds from amazon and ACG&S will definitely be included in it. I got informed about this BBC series by a regular poster in another board just two days ago, who also love this show and she was able to get a dvd copy of All Creatures ...
I've read the books of Herriot (about 6 of his titles) when I was in my pre-teens and those have remained my all-time favorites up to the present when I'm already a mature adult. Herriot's books were filled with real people, life in all its aspects and nuances of the bright side and its underbelly. Whenever I read anything so sad, I always have to follow it up with anyone of Herriot's books to dispel my low spirits.
And about the OP, he/she must - and should - know not everyone in this world is crazy about American tv shows and films that many (not all of course), nowadays, are almost always : frenetically paced, in-your-face humour as one poster above described the comedies, can't seem to do without special effects that are amusingly unreal, explosions, unbelievable car chases, boobs and hotties and sexual pantings, synthetic glamour girls and bimbos ...
Truth inexorably, inscrutably seeks and reveals Itself into the Light.
I just read the posts and, to be honest: the name of the OP is telling...
I was watching the series from its FIRST airings here in Germany, when I was as little as 9 years of age, and I loooved every episode, which - though in german then - were aired in Saturday afternoons. I remember it so clearly because we hurried to get back from school on Saturday noon, wolf down our lunches and then go out to play in the woods, always on guard to be back on time and not even miss a minute of it.
What still is amazing me most is - although there are definitely a lot of jokes and running gags in the show - it's never getting silly or shallow.
Having been grown in the countryside I could tell most of the things shown in the series and would even have been able to tell if there was any fake "treatment" - especially with cows and smaller animals. And there were none. All stuff, as far as i can say, was real injuries, sicknesses and results of mistreatings.
Another thing that amazes me is that it shows a part of history many people seem to have forgotten. Those times in the late 40's and early 50's were hard times, but also full of wonders. New medical discoveries were made almost every week, airplanes were able to cross the atlantic in a considerable time, Television broadcasting was getting you the latest news in a fracture of the time newspapers could deliver them.
Watching them now in the original language is even more amazing as I love the accent of the dales a lot. I have a couple of friends from up there and those people, as far as i can tell, are people hard to befriend but also hard to befoe... ;) Just my humble opinion to it.
I don't have a tv and don't need it. I have a cinema around the corner or dvd-drive on my comp.
Lol! Guys this person is a troll. There is massive humor in his line about hot they look and age. I read the post because I thought it was about time slots, but cracked up when I read the whole thing. People don't hate this show anywhere, well the later episoded with the anti-Helen aren't as good.
