This film is insulting

As someone who is from Uruguay I must say this film is completely disrespectful. I was watching this film and enjoying it up until the part where they show Szell's hideout in Uruguay. I was like: 'WHAT?', because apparently we have jungles here and I didn't even notice. I know most of you people don't even know where Uruguay is and don't care about this, but I ask you: if they depicted your country in a film in a completely wrong way, wouldn't you be pissed off?. Filmmakers should do a little research if they are going to put something in a film they know nothing about.
Luckily this mistake is shown in the goofs section for this movie:
"Errors in geography: Dr. Szell is supposed to be living in Uruguay before going to New York. We see shots of what is supposed to be Uruguay which show people traveling in canoes through the jungle, but in Uruguay there is no jungle."

EDIT (7 years later): Hey guys, good news: I'm over it now.
Calling the film insulting was too much, I admit; I do remember being pretty irritated when I wrote the message above. Of course, that it inaccurately depicts Uruguay's geography is undeniable.
I would delete this post, but hey, many of your responses are pretty funny!

It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage.

And OP thinks Marathon Man accurately depicts the U.S.?

Well, Skylab23, it took you almost 8 years, but glad to see you "got over it".

Good on ya!

I for one, am glad you did not delete your original post and thank you for that.

Having finally seen the movie in it's entirety instead of just in passing the TV I would say it's one of the best Spy thrillers ever. Always loved Dustin Hoffman. Not to overlook the stellar supporting cast of Olivier, Scheider, Keller etc.

But that's not my point in writing...

I got it right away, the scene supposedly in the jungle of Uruguay, wait what?! I said.
There are no jungles in Uruguay?! That was immediately followed by the association of the inference to the Dr Mengele, former Nazi Doctor torturer hiding in plain sight in a city in South America. Well, not immediately but shortly after the dental torture scene.

But again, that is not my point in writing...

It was the various reviews written about your patriotic snit fit that had me just bursting and laughing out loud! Yes, some of them were particularly snarky. But for the most part absolutely hilarious!!! I am happy to see that you too "got" the humor. :D

Actually only reached page 4 of 7 of the responses before I had to stop from rolling on the floor laughing and write you MY response. I will now go back and finish them, after all, it is good for the soul to laugh, right?!

My FAV so far?!

You go Ur-aguay, I'll go mine.
:D

Try not to be so sensitive next time, it's only Hollywood!

I am from Sweden and I love Vamos a matar Companeros. It is so refreshing watching Franco Nero as the Swede Yodlaf Peterson. More insulting are films who try to get it perfecty right, because they might end up pretentious.

That statement is not only stupid, it is PROFOUNDLY stupid.

But hey, you are a Swede, so I understand.
