Yep the 70s was the golden era for not just horror but movies in general
the problem with horror movies today is they rely on remakes.. first person view cheap budget movies... or just relying on false jump scares, (by that I mean music goes tense then oh everything is all good then wait for it.... BANG!) then it;s over done over and over and over again. it's fake a jump scare has to have a purpose like Carries at the end.
The only thing coming close that is good is the Haunting of Hill house first season anyway that is good horror today that is original
There are so many good horror movies that aren't just remakes or found footage types or lazy jumpscares.
And there are also movies out there that ARE superior remakes, as well as quality found footage films.
Sorry I don't know any horror movies where the remake is 'superior' most are utter trash/./. the fly is about the only one I can think of along with the thing that have been better remakes of horror films.
shareDo you prefer Ringu over The Ring?
shareI think both movies are good in their own way. but lets go down a list here of the last 20 or so years
Friday the 13th
Nightmare elm st
amityville horror
The Fog
Wickerman
Poltergeist
House of Wax
Texas Chainsaw massacre
Halloween
Psycho
Omen
Carrie
Day of the dead
Ok do I really have to keep going on about how the last 20 years of remakes of horror films have sucked?>
No, you don't. The only thing I wanted to point out is that there are a number remakes that are superior. It doesn't really matter to me how many more remakes failed.
On the whole, this thread was acting like there's no good horror movies anymore, which is obviously false.
Maybe Night of the Living Dead 1990
shareCarrie was great but not better than Jaws.
shareAgreed. There were so many original works that were released at that time. 80s was the time of slasher. 90s was the time of self-aware slasher. 2000s was the time of the supernatural and the remake. 2010s is the time of the found-footage, and lately, the indie. The 70s was diverse and high in quality.
shareI love how bright red the blood is in 70s horror films. Suspiria did that the best. Even though the blood looks unrealistic, it is visually stunning to look at.
shareGoing to agree with you on this one. THere's such a heavy contrast between the 60's and 70's in terms of horror movie quality. The 70's was last major cultural revolution in terms of music and film (imo)
shareI Also love...
Sisters
The Changeling (made in '79 released in '80)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane
Don't forget The other.
shareNo there is not. And that includes all the giallo too! Greatest movie decade bar none.
