Finest sci-fi movie ever.

The storyline is incredibly intricate so you have to follow it closely and the creatures are truly lifelike and scary and certainly the pig-like drones strike fear into me every time I see this film. And then I laugh out loud!!!!

Truly a movie to watch with others so you can really enjoy it like so many awful films - would make even that unbearable if it wasn't for the actors - watching gorgeous Caroline Munroe laugh her way through scenes is priceless, Cushing plays it for laughs and Doug McClure plays it straight which makes him the funniest of all.

Seriously though, always liked these actors so I can laugh with them so to speak - own this on dvd with War Gods of the Deep which is in the same vein except Tab Hunter instead of Doug - every time I see this one I wish they had gone with Doug.

After reading the book and just now watching the movie, it was a bit too campy for me. Maybe as a 7 tear old kid in '76, it would have been awesome. plus I think they could have made the Mahars secret from the book into the movie.

Finest? No. "Funnest"? Way, way up on the list.

superb movie with the immortal Peter Cushing in his clenched jaw mode, I particularly liked the use of multiple angle camera shots of the same explosion to give the effect of there being 4 or more explosions, quite innovative. The giant birds were used to good effect suspended from gantries on wires. All in all a fine production that boosted Doug McClures movie career to one of the best leading men characters in films.

It is fun. But I would label it fantasy rather than sci-fi.
