So was this intended for kids?

When I think of Muppets, I think of kid friendly. Am I correct in my assumption here? And, I also heard this show has a certain level of adult humor and innuendo... but I am not sure if this is true or not. I would like to know before I see it XD, thanks!

Its a jungle out there.

the Muppet Show tread a fine line between Adult Humor and being a kids show. the Big Premis was, it was a kids show, adults would enjoy watching too, so, many of the things were layered. It WAS a kids show mind you, but worked the line, and put in jokes and content, kids wouldn't get, but adults would.

I think its probably the only show that has even tried that, and it worked! I remeber the show as a kid, and now that Ive seen it as adult, I get the adult jokes too now.

The overall thing was, make a kids show, parents would enjoy watching too. They pulled it off.

I mean, Miss Piggy was based on Margerat Hullihan/Loreeta Switt, Rolph The Dog was based on Tom Waits, Janice was based on Janice Joplin.

Well, no. Rowlf was around years before Tom Waits.

The show was definitely meant for adults, but also safe for kids. Jim Henson never wanted to be seen as a 'children's entertainer' and sometimes became depressed 'Sesame Street' caused people to class him as such, though he was enormously fond of 'Street' and the people who worked with him there.
