Unbloodybelievable

I hope, with every fiber of my being, that I never, in real life, come across anyone who says this movie is "beautiful". You obviously think that torturing and abusing women, keeping them as chattle and second class, is love. On what sodding planet is that ok? It's not on this one, so get off it now. You.Make.Me.Sick.

You obviously have no concept of what IRONY is moron. This is a great movie. I say that as a woman, a feminist, and a humanist. Some people can be so f'ing PC it makes me gag.

The violence used to bother me too -- till I realized it was stylized. A previous poster mentioned ketchup instead of blood -- but there isn't any ketchup. For all the slaps he gives her, she never has a hair out of place. If anything, she looks more ravishing, not ravished. Is Lina playing with some sexual fantasies here? Is the Bear Catholic?

This brilliant re-imagining of "The Admirable Crichton" is one of the great treasures of modern cinema.

After five minutes, I wanted to throw both her and her husband overboard.

Obviously myartemis1975 did not understand this movie at all or what Wertmuller so brilliantly brought to the screen.

The characters are exaggerated and extreme because they are metaphors for their social classes.

The behavior is exaggerated and extreme as it's metaphorical "what if's".

Oh why bother explaining if the viewer did not "get it" watching the movie.

There was no rape or forced sex. Giannini's character toyed with the woman because he could in such extreme circumstances. Once they were back on solid land, she went back to "normal" ruling class behavior including worship of jewelry as she took the ring from the poor slob. Again, it's all hypotethical and much is done for comedy. Either you get it or you don't.
