shareI was just thinking that myself. The killer group didn't seem to have a lot of men to spare, and it's not clear that they'd bother to pick up the corpse anyway.
I imagine a conversation in the car as Catherine is riding back in the car with her boyfriend after a week of skiing:
"I'd better warn you, our apartment might be a bit niffy when we get back."
"Oh yes, why's that?"
"Well, there was this guy staying there - he had kidnapped me at gunpoint, actually - I mean, don't get mad or anything, but after we made love that night a mailman came in the next morning and got killed. In a shootout."
"And then you came up to Vermont for a week's cross-country skiing with me."
"Well, I've been meaning to tell you but I couldn't think of a good way to bring it up."
"And you thought the rotten corpse of a mailman might make a good icebreaker."
"He wasn't a real mailman."
"Oh."
Most amusing . . .
Whoever is tracking all this will have everything cleaned up . . . no matter what side of the aisle they're on . . . nothing must be left to chance . . . cleaned-up nice and tidy . . . no matter how messed up it might be . . .
The same "clean-up" crew as they used at the American Lit. Society. If you recall that when Higgins was cross-checking the files to see any connection between Joubert and Atwood, there's photo's of the dead mailman laying on the floor inside Catherine's apartment.

Next time I see it, though...
Personally, I found the biggest plot hole to be that the lead hitman played by Max Von Sydow didn't kill Condor in the elevator. He could've had a gun behind his head before he knew it, instead of playing sniper. This supposedly pro hitman would never have left Condor free to exit a backdoor, etc.

To those of you wanting to know what happened to the Mailman's body? Not a plot hole. Turner got into a fight with the mailman. Bad guy had a silencer on his machine gun. Turner had a 1914 Colt .45 that was NOT silenced. What probably happened is that the neighbors heard the COLT's very loud report and called NYPD. The body was picked up by the NYC Coroner's Office. The CIA had pictures because NYPD and CIA have always been connected at the hip even today just like LAPD too. Higgins probably had NYPD stand-down from the NYPD - BOLO for Turner's likeness. Also FBI because the John Doe was wearing a USPS uniform (FEDERAL?).
turner wouldve killed him after he got off the elevator and stood there.
govt hitmen are in pairs. and turner would not answer the door or use the phone.
the movie is a trainwreck of holes and it needed to be cut by 30 min.
the only good thing is the music and even that is on the phony side.
