Director's cut, or original version -- your recommendations?

I'd like to buy the movie on Blu-ray -- but I see that the Blu-ray version Amazon are selling is the "Director's Cut" that loses seven minutes and some scenes and dialogue.

There is a DVD that has the original version.

Does anyone have any strong feelings for or against the missing material? What exactly has been cut? Can you describe the missing scenes?

I can't decide what to buy, so any input or differing opinions will be valuable to hear; advance thanks to any responders.

If you only have a casual interest in the film, watch the director's cut. If you love it, get the original version.

I grew up with the original but I definitely prefer the director's cut, simply because I never bought the semi-relatiobship between Michael and Irma. IMO the movie is much more satisfying without it.
