I liked it, but it was racist.

I really liked this film, but I thought it was racist how they portrayed the white folk as being stupid like in thinking that you could cure rheumatism by putting your feet on top of a dog or a black kid.

Then they were racist by portraying a whites as incestuous - the guy was going to marry his cousin but found out she had been having sex with her brother.

I mean I still really liked the film, but thought they went out of their way to make the whites look bad.

If anyone did some serious home work regarding to Southern History,it is true as movie "Mandigo" portrayed incest, cause incestuous relationship among family members, particurarly among brothers and sisters, and fathers and daughters, and inter-marriages among first cousins were quite common in those day, when I said those days I meant from 18th century to all the way throught out early 20th century and it is known fact!! Movie "Mandigo" simply protrayed the scenes as it were in those days and it is not thing to do with making whites look stupid and such. The movie "Mandigo" shows us some good insights to as how blacks were treated in the south from 18th century - late 19th century, but even after american civil war blacks were continusly faced harsh racism and discrimination from their white neighbors. Did any one heard about southern " Jim Jones Law"? Well "Jim Jones Law" was another form of racism that was introduced in the south right after the liberation of black slaves in the second half of 1800's,the law that for-bids southern blacks and whites from inter-mingle and it was at work until it was finally banned in the late 1960's,thankx to person like Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. and black movement in the sixties. It is truly one of the shameful chapter of our american history. Don't give me wrong, life is much better today for the black folks and rest of other ethnic americans, but problem of racism still persist and scar of shame-ful chapter of our american history still remains.

I guess even well-to-do people didn't have large circles of eligible marriage partners to choose from. Outside of church, where would you meet people? When folks did go to school, they usually didn't finish the upper grades. People tended not to travel far from their birthplaces. Women were quite isolated, because they usually didn't work outside the home.
"We're fighting for this woman's honor, which is more than she ever did."
