Rare Footage and Photos

Sorry for the repost! I had to make slight edits on the original post but anyways again what are your thoughts? Do you think these rare deleted scenes would’ve helped or hurt the film? I would love to know your thoughts! https://youtu.be/LEWkJLq6f1w

Regarding the Kintner attack, I’d love to see the entire scene edited together. There’s still a bit of the scene in the movie, when the shark rolls over.

I think the estuary attack is perfect the way it is. Seeing the victim in the shark’s mouth just doesn’t look right. He’s too close to the dorsal fin. Seeing the leg sink, then the blood gushing to the surface, leaves it to our mind.

agreed, especially since they didn't really have the ability to make it look that convincing.

I think both cuts were for the best. Zanuck and Brown said the modification of the estuary death was to ensure a PG rating, and even Spielberg stated that the longer version was too bloody and in bad taste. He was happy to cut that out as well as some frames lingering on the severed leg. As for Alex Kintner's death, I think it was more effective to continue keeping the shark concealed. Admittedly, the image of Jaws popping his head up before devouring the unsuspecting lad was pretty damned creepy. But we got that kind of horrific imagery with Quint at the end where, in my opinion, the impact of the almost fully revealed shark was amplified because we hadn't seen any deaths like that previously.

You typed this all out so that I didn't have to. 😊😊

I feel pretty much the same way. I am never one to shy away from gore, but I think that showing the shark too much would not have been effective.

Yeah I agree, at first I thought he was riding the shark. The kid actor didn't seem to freaked out by it too, I imagine even a grown adult would be screaming if they were clinging onto a shark like that. The shark is shown in just the perfect amount in the final cut.
