Agreed. A simple Remington 870 shotgun would have done the trick!

Actually, I heard of a fisherman that used a 12 gauge shotgun to kill a great white shark.

Yep, If you hook one and get it up to the boat, a slug out of a 12 gauge is effective.

Also, they DID have rifles. A shotgun would obviously have been more effective.
