I'm a Catholic, I don't want to hurt anybody

Probably didn't age very well.

Imagine the reaction if that line was given in a modern movie. If it even would be allowed at all.

What do you mean?

reply

They keep telling me that Christianity is the most violent religion on earth, with the Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades, etc. Try to criticize Islam and it's bound to come up. 😩🤮

reply

The Spanish Inquisition would let you know in advance that they're coming. The crusades were a series of defence battles. Etc?

Not that this has much to do with the movie really, because I'm sure Sonny didn't say that based on a meticulous analysis about ancient history, but his feelings about himself and his religion. Geez man. Americans.

Tell that to that to those who say it. I'm not Karen Armstrong.

reply

I understand now. Yea, possibly.

reply

I have to know-- what did you write, then delete, in response to my history lesson?

reply

I said now I'll have to watch a documentary about it thanks to you.

reply

That's completely false. No one expected the Spanish Inquisition. It was often remarked that their chief weapon was surprise. It was either that or fear. Those were their two main weapons-- fear and surprise-- so to say they let you know in advance they were coming is a historical falsehood. If you do some reading on the topic, the terms that come up over and over are surprise, fear, and a ruthless efficiency, so I suppose you could say they had three main weapons: fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency, and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope. I guess that makes four, but you get my point. They were definitely not letting anyone know they were coming.

Also the nice red uniform! I guess that makes five?

reply

Someone knows his history. And yes, their weaponry was made up of diverse elements, and the nice red uniform was chief amongst them.
