Least Favorite Crew Character
Helena Russell by far
Kono-He loved Computer Way too much!
Got to be Yasko. Mainly because she was useless, the actress playing her couldn't act, and she was only given the role (and dialogue) because she was the girlfriend of one of the series directors.
I would almost say Sandra too, at least in the first season because of her incessant, ear-piercing screaming in every other episode, which was quite unnecessary. I really did want to slap her sometimes, but at least she did her job.
Never understood all the hate for Helena though. Bain played her as a cool, elegant blonde which I loved. Considering the annoying hysterics of some of the other women on Alpha, she was a blessing.
Unfortunately, Sci-Fi fans have always used the original Star Trek's often over-emoting as a blueprint of how TV Sci-Fi should be done.
shareI know this is irrational, but I REALLY was annoyed by the Alpha character of Winters who comes into to replace Paul in the Infernal Machine episode.
I mean, it was bad series logic all around:
a. Koenig introduces him to the rest of the Main Mission crew in such a phony fashion that barely disguises that he is really introducing him to the audience.
b. I would have much preferred it if they had Tanya or Kano take Paul's role/lines for the episode.
I mean, I realize that maybe it was expedient to use an experienced actor to quickly memorize Prentiss Hancock's lines on a day when he had to go to hospital, but just having this guy show up for an episode out of the blue kinda pissed me off
On November 6, 2012 god blessed America...again.
It was an odd character decision. It should've been Kano.
shareProbably Maya. The show got a bit silly in season 2 with her morphing about all over the place. Also there was no professor Bergman in season 2, WTF, he was awesome.
shareThe omission of Professor Bergman was indeed a disgrace.
The blame for anything not budget-related should rest on the shoulders of Fred Freiberger (if not Gerry Abderson for hiring Freiberger), who tried to turn the show into a live-action cartoon. The only thing that saved the Maya character, in my opinion, was the terrific Catherine Schell.
