John koenig was the saddest human being ever..

I couldn't stand the way he was always so dead serious. He never smiled, he never joked, he never displayed any kind of a light side.

He was like a damn statue in every episode. It was always business with him.

After watching this show as a kid, it would take me years to warm to Martin landau in any way, shape or form.

Well Koenig did have a pretty demanding job. However I remember a few moments when he lightened up. But you need to remember their situation, these people were marooned in space and struggling to survive, joking about all the time would have been way out of place.

Fred Freiberger critiqued the first season when he was hired. One of his comments was "Doesn't anybody smile in 1999?". Along with other gems showing his "wisdom", such as "Science Fiction needs young faces" - his excuse for making sure Barry Morse wasn't brought back.
