So, you expect others to be articulate (and not believe R_Kane isn't you with a different account name), and yet you still wallow in the logical fallacy of ad hominem ("link-boy," whatever the hell that means). You were challenged to form a coherent argument first. You don't get to put the burden on someone else until you've met the initial challenge.
I wouldn't take too much pride in making assumptions about people you know absolutely nothing about. But that's just how I am and you're not, apparently.
Dummy. I try to make peace and you decide to snack on more of your own shit. Kindly go fuck yourself.
Why is this thing still on? Three probable reasons: (1) super-cheap to produce, (2) drug use is at an all-time high (tee-hee, he said "high"), (3) people are fucking stupid.
All of the above. Also, it has a time-slot all to itself, so as long as they throw some pop-douche sellebrity on as a musical guest, it's bound to draw an audience...just like flies to shit.
I think another challenge that other shows face that this one doesn't is that you don't have to be a longtime viewer to enjoy a particular episode. For example if you tuned into a random episode of a show that's in it's 5th year, you might find it hard to follow so you'd likely just avoid that show. But with SNL it really doesn't matter if you watched the show in the last 10 years, you'd be able to follow it for the most part the same as anyone else watching. So the audience doesn't have to be the same set of people from week to week, just anyone who happens to be home and awake at 11:30 on a Saturday night.
Read that article expecting an opinion from a conservative point of view, but it turns out it's written by a liberal who thinks SNL is empty not because they're constantly attacking Trump, but because they're attacking Trump in the wrong way. According to this writer, Trump is MUCH more dangerous than SNL gives him credit for, and he's not just a buffoon, but a threat to our entire civilization.
The article never once admits the obvious - that SNL is driven by liberals who attack Republican presidents and use kid gloves on Democrat ones, all the while boasting about doing raw and 'honest' comedy. It blames the lack of political attacks on the reigning power in the 90s on 'fewer major news stories that SNL felt it necessary to comment on', when the truth is, they took it easy on Bill Clinton, gently portraying him as a slightly goofy, French fry stealing ladies man. Because they weren't spending every show attacking him, they had more time to develop other characters.
The truth is, SNL in 2017 was the perfect storm of unleashed liberal hatred, and a drive for ratings. Liberals flocked to the show, unhinged by the election of Trump and searching for media that would validate their world view that he was a mixture of the dumbest person on the planet, and the embodiment of evil. SNL let them live in their fantasy world, where Trump acted just like they believed he would. They needed reassurance that they were right, and the rest of America were brain-dead idiots who voted for this monster. And SNL fed them that in an unending trough.
I have to admit I watched it. (Well, DVR'd it.) Their non-political humor is spotty, but there's a nugget to be found here and there. As with most TV and movies, we conservatives have to put up with some liberal bullshit just to find entertainment. So when they portrayed Bush II as a stuttering moron, and Obama as the coolest black guy since Shaft (despite the fact he was only half-black and a stuttering moron without his teleprompter), I took it with a grain of salt.
But once Trump won, the show became impossible for me to watch. While Farrell's portrayal of Bush was obviously a liberal's take on the man, there wasn't the over-the-top anger that's present in Baldwin's portrayal of Trump. Just watching it for a few seconds lets you know that Baldwin's hatred for Trump is real, and it oozes from his pores in every sketch.
My prediction is that the anti-Trump fervor is going to fade, and those watching SNL as an expression of hatred for the man will become less and less. But those conservatives like me who used to watch will never return, and the show will finally be put out of its misery.
