I Coule NEVER Tolerate Levitt

He was just a brown nosing, whiny, smart mouthed ingrate. I didn't mind him so much when he just popped in and did "mail call", but when he worked as a plain clothes detective, I found him next to impossible to take....

Maybe I shouldn't be but I am really shocked to hear so much negativity about the Levitt character by Ron Carey. I just loved him so much that I would have been surprised others didn't love him also, let alone actively dislike him.

Also, his portrayal as the limo driver in Mel Brooks' High Anxiety I thought was hysterical.

Levitt was not my favorite character but I flatly hated Inspector Luger. He reminded me way too much of a guy I used to work for. He would accept a project then hand it to you and expect you to do it without any instructions on how he wanted it done. Later he would find fault with however you did it. He would often nitpick even if you did it exactly the way he told you to.

The one and only weak link in the otherwise perfect show. Agreed. Kiss ass. Smarmy. Two-faced. What's to like about his character? Nothing. Whenever he's onscreen I think 'Why the hell is he on this show??'. He doesn't fit at all.

The Inspector was the man. Bangin local cashiers. Getting himself invited to thanksgiving. He kicked ass.

reply

Inspector Luger to Barney during the police strike,
"A New York police officer stands for NOTHING!!".

reply

One of the funniest Luger lines ever.

Maybe you don't have a frigging sense of humor. You blather on and on about Leavitt like an old lady. He was playing a funny neurotic character, get over it. If you ever wrote a script in your life or understood character development you would understand the role he played in the show.

I liked Leavitt a lot. One thing that that didn't ring true was when he was revealed to be talking to internal affairs and yet they still accepted him. I always loved his 360 when he exited and closed the door.

By the way what was the deal with all the mail? Why would all these detectives be getting mail at work? I could see the captain receiving it but the others?

No! That's not true at all, Elvis takes 50% of everything I earn!

It was the 70s. No email. I hand wrote, addressed, sealed, stamped, and put in the family mailbox with the flag up over 300 letters to Vietnam. If we'd had email the relationship might've ended differently. Anyway, I now get about half a dozen work emails each day.

Actually I'd believe that in real world a little guy such as Levitt would be an idea l plainclothes undercover cop who could blend into practically any situation without being suspected of being a cop. ☺

It's people like you and your attitude that ended up killing him! He died of a broken heart....
