Not a slasher
This movie is not a slasher. I get tired of people arguing otherwise.
shareWhat is it? The movie checks a lot of the core slasher staples.
The killer has a signature mask/outfit. Slasher villains became iconic due to their appearance. This differs from traditional who done it murder mysteries and giallo movies where the killers was kept in the shadows or wore non-descript outfits to keep the killers identity a mystery. This is one of the things the American slasher did that transcended their Italian counterparts. Horror fans became fanboys of the villains and their appearance was hugely important to this. I believe this is one of the reasons Black Christmas doesn't quite have the iconography of some of the most famous slasher movies even though it's every bit as good (or better) than most of them.
And then there was one (the final girl). The sub-genre staple body count structure, one by one they get killed off.
The final chase became a signature feature of the sub-genre.
Is this the one where the villain lifts up a girl and slams her back down into a meat hook?
