The WORST bond movie by a....

.....nautical mile.
It seems full of its own importance- happy to drag its heels and yawn from one cliche to the next. The last 45 minutes are so sluggish, it feels like the director and writers just went home and left it to trundle to a full stop.

Comparing it to modern day Bond movies is like comparing Jaws to an episode of Flipper..

Nah. It's definetly my least favourite of Roger Moore's. It is too drawn out and does drag a bit but there's still Scaramanga, who's one of the best villains, and great locations.

And that stunt! Who cares about the whistle sound, the stunt was awesome and much more impressive than any crap CGI crap in Die Another Day.

For it's problems, I'll still take it over most of Craigs, Brosnans, and a couple of Connery's.

I absolutely hated this film. The only redeeming value is the car stunt. The rest stinks:

Mary Goodnight is annoying as hell

Nick Nack is a cartoon character

Christopher Lee, who is an amazing actor, looks very uncomfortable here

The karate fight is a gratuitous add-on to try and appeal to audiences interested in those films. The James Bond films were always trendsetters, not followers. They are just following here. It could have been better had it been filmed as a danger to Bond, instead it is cartoonish and stupid.

Sheriff Pepper(No need to say any more)

Long, boring story that takes forever to get anywhere.

There is more but I have made my point.

On paper it makes for a good movie and I think it would have been a great movie if it had a more serious tone, IE if this was a Dalton movie. Having Bond being hunted by the worlds greatest assassin would be a great movie. But it feels like Bond is never really in any danger.

This movie could actually be one of the better Bond movies if several things were fixed or taken out.

1. The Solex plot, just scrap that. Should have instead had the movie focus on perhaps a bored Scaramanga looking for a challenge and setting his sights on the worlds greatest secret agent.

2. Scrap JD Pepper all together.

3. Get rid of the slide whistle during the car jump. Its incredible that stunt was done in one take and it was ruined by the stupid sound effect.

4. Make Goodnight a believable agent

5. Make the end duel better.

Excellent ideas! I agree that there could have been a good movie if they only had more self respect.
As it stands, though, I rank this as the 4th worst Bond film. Right behind DaF, DAD, & 8P and just ahead of Moonraker & Skyfall.

These ideas make me think that modern remakes of the old movies could be awesome!

Its bad, but not THE worst.

Christopher Lee is awesome
The jump stunt was incredible.

Nah, this one is far from the worst if only because of the great Christopher Lee, who always plays an excellent villain. To me, it pretty much comes down to Die Another Day or Quantum of Solace as the worst Bond film.

But at least with Die Another Day, which actually started out quite promising with its engaging first half, I can laugh at how ridiculous and stupidly over-the-top it is. It's actually somewhat enjoyable in a "so bad it's good" or "guilty pleasure" kind of way. I feel the same way about Moonraker and A View to a Kill, they may be cheesy and cartoonish, but at least they're entertaining and memorable on some level.

With Quantum of Solace, however, I just get sooo bored of the grim cheerlessness and the fact that everyone is constantly brooding or pouting. The dialogue is well written but it's way too serious with an overly dramatic and depressing tone. There's some decent action here and there, but the movie is mostly forgettable and hard to sit through with its constant moodiness. To me, the Bond franchise was never supposed to be dark, gritty, and overly realistic. I prefer to have a good time when I watch these films and wish that I was James Bond, rather than feeling sorry for him. The character works better when he's cocky, brash, and witty rather than being morose and overly vulnerable. Just my opinion.

But yeah, overall I'd rather laugh at a movie for being too silly and campy than be bored by one for trying way too hard to be deep and edgy.
