I will also say he had another problem rather than myopia bc dersu is not a young boy in the movie he is probably in his 60s, and around that age almost all people develop hypermetropia instead (but this is not the problem with dersu bc he is short sighted)
But more importantly it might be implied that his problems with perception is psychological, he has killed a tiger and now kanga punishes him by taking away his vision so he cannot hunt anymore.
