Ian Hendry Alert!

Outstanding actor. Sad that he died so young.

babettegillette, yes great actor, always interesting when he was on screen, played a great villian.

He had a real problem with the booze apparently. He was indeed a very good actor. Outstanding in Get Carter with Michael Caine.

I've heard as much. He was in Repulsion (1965) and I remember reading on it's wikipedia page he was often drunk on set.

Additionally, Ian Hendry, who portrayed Michael, would frequently return to the set after lunch intoxicated, making him difficult to direct.

I don't know if you know the 1970s UK TV cop show The Sweeney, but Ian Hendry was in a very early episode of that playing a 'heavy' alongside Alan Lake (husband of Diana Dors, and also a notorious drinker). I remember reading in a book about the making of the show that they had to get all of Hendry's and Lake's action scenes filmed before lunch, because after lunch neither of them were capable of doing it without hurting themselves or someone else.
