Reliving My Youth

Just watched the DVDs of the first(and sadly only) season...Very enjoyable! This was a favorite show of mine when it originally aired(perhaps not the most appropriate fare for an eight-year-old, but that's another post entirely!)It features a parade of well-known guest stars from all your favorite 70s shows and luminaries involved in the writing include David Chase and Robert Zemeckis! Sure, the monster makeup is cheesy at times, but all in all, a great experience that for me, evoked a ton of nostalgia for those carefree days of yore...

i watched the one the other day where he was battling a coven of witches in the fashion industry. it was so cool. whacky, creepy, morally ambiguous, filled with interesting details and folklore. really neat show.

Yeah, I really enjoyed that one...This show was definitely ahead of its time!

reply

Really? Every episode had the same plot formula.

You could say the same thing about literally every single show from the 70s...With only a handful of channels to choose from, networks knew they had a captive audience so they weren't very inclined towards innovation!

I really wish this show had continued on beyond the first season.

reply

Indeed...

Even when it was first on, this was a problem, and probably the main reason the show failed. Don't get me wrong; I loved it then and I still do, but I remember watching when it first aired. I was in Jr. High, (Middle School today) and I recall that 3/4 through "The Horror in the Heights" I was thinking that the show was about to become really great. The story was particularly neat and it looked like opening up a larger plotline. This was certainly going to be two part episode, at least, and Kolchak might have some sort of revelation of a mission... But it ended. - Decently, but abruptly, as always and the crossbow, apparently, went into Kolchaks closet or something.

I was 7 and it was my favorite most anticipated weekly show. I wasnt scared though cause I would watch it with my dad. There were two things I loved, Spider-Man and monsters. Im sure alot of it went over my head but I wasnt really scared of monsters. I know that Zombie episode scared the crap out of me especially when it woke up. But it wasnt that kind of traumatizing horror like The Exorcist was, it was mostly just that thrilling and exhilarating kind of feeling.
