Movies like this and other cool ones of the '70s can't match what they make today. Which is nothing very good.
Check out these crime dramas of the '70s.

That's an A list, and better than mine. All of those flicks together makes for a fun summer...Heh-heh! _______________________________________ Nick "A hell of a great guy! NOT!"
Boy do you have a great list there buddy!! Those films are some of my favorites! Here are some others that come to mind that haven't been mentioned: The Mechanic and The Stone Killer- two of Bronson's best action films, Badge 373- Duvall gives a great hard-nosed cop performance, Blazing Magnum- Stuart Whitman, Martin Landau and a 15 minute tire-screeching car chase that gives me chills just thinking about it!, Gordon's War- Paul Winfield is a bad-ass who forms a vigilante squad to go after drug dealers, Magnum Force- probably the most action packed of the Dirty Harry series and Get Carter- Michael Caine dukes it out in gritty Newcastle- one of the best!!! I can go and on naming these gems from an era which produced some memorable films. You are right on the money, the films of today cannot match the stories, writing, acting, and action of films from the seventies. If they are not remaking something they are producing horrendous junk with wooden actors or otherwise. Hope to hear more from people on this message board!
Great lists above as I own most of those movies and watch them all of the time.....a few others would be The Laughing Policeman and The Driver....I'm pretty stoked the someone mentioned "The Mechanic"
It was certainly a Gothamized time. It struck me even then that not only were blaxploitation films coming out but movies about white ethnics, too. In the 7-Ups, wasn't there a scene in Roy Scheider's old neighborhood where people ask him when he is going to get married?

wrfarley again. I forgot her name! I was a big Roy Scheider fan, still am, when the film came out. I remember thinking "pick me" when watching that scene with Mrs. Pugliesi.

I hear you, Noir-It-All. He is totally hot. Sat in back of him during a preview performance of "The Elephant Man", circa 1980 and didn't pay much attention to the play. Was too much in awe to even make eye contact, let alone say anything to him.
"No, I don't like to cook, but I have a chicken in the icebox, and you're eating it."
