Do anyone miss that old style Disney animation?

I'm currently watching "Robin Hood" and I recently watched "The Sword in the Stone". I gotta say, I miss that old animation. Maybe due to nostalgia reasons. I don't know. Dang I miss being a kid.

Grew up in the 80's btw!

As far as Disney goes, yeah, I miss animated Disney. I much prefer it to CGI which has gotten completely overused for feature animation nowadays. Which is why 'Princess & the Frog' rates so high for me as opposed to 'Tangled' or any Dreamworks stuff. Just the lush beautifully detailed animation in P&TF makes it breathtaking to watch.

Now that being said, the Disney animation of the 60's and 70's doesn't resemble ANY of this being described. It was all done in that horrible unfinished sketch quality where lines are seen all over the place and overlap with other lines and just look generally like a storyboard done with a just little more detail.

101 Dalmatians had that look but the story made up for it. Now Sword & the Stone was a completely wasted opportunity to tell the Arthur legend. Just a dreary plodding cartoon. Robin Hood is a little better but the animation again has that sloppy sketch xerox copy looking style that must've been all the rage at the time. The action sequences were even worse and literally reminded me of Scooby Doo. Every time the action started they'd play that fast music and everyone's feet would be sped up and everyone would be running back and forth JUST LIKE ON SCOOBY DOO! I half expect to see Scooby and Shaggy in a cameo, being chased by the swamp monster or something every time I see this thing.

Now I never saw this the 1st time around (nor 'Sword In the Stone') BUT I am a gen x-er born in '68 so I was the target audience for this. This period of Disney animation IMO isn't worthy of the Disney brand. Disney before this period had standards and art defined by it's lushness, detail, and beauty. This period after Walt's passing looks as if the artists were content to churn out TV animation quality dreck done in whatever fad art style was 'in' at the time.

The Sword in the Stone has one of the most unique and important messages of any Disney film. I'm sorry if you couldn't appreciate it's many virtues.

I do miss the animation- HOWEVER, I would like to disagree with some comments here. Disney has made countless amazing movies throughout the 20th century; Bambi in the 40s, Peter Pan in the 50s, Jungle Book in the 60s, Robin Hood in the 70s, Fox n the Hound in the 80s and Lion King in the 90s (obviously there are many more..) but its not like they dont continue to make good movies! Yes, they are CGI which is annoying sometimes but people here have said they are bad plot and character-wise which is simply untrue!

They still make great stuff like Wall-e, Up, Brother Bear, the Toy Story movies...even Princess and the Frog was very good!

...or something far more sinister?

i agree with this sentiment 100%, and i'm only 19!
i loveee hand drawn animation. it's interesting to see the evolution of it in disney from snow white/sleeping beauty all the way through to the 90s.
i really miss hand drawn animation in all aspects. even bugs bunny was great!
idk. i was a bit of a weird kid i guess, i got so excited in june when i was younger cause that was my birthday month and bugs bunny marathon month haha.

i wish they would go back to making quality animation and stories for children. i feel bad for the kids these days. at least i had the 90s disney "renaissance" period to grow up on and i had all the disney movies on VHS. then we had nicktoons too which was all pretty good cartoons in my opinion, not necessarily GREAT animation..but a lot better than what's out there for kids these days. i'm thinking hey arnold in particular..when they'd do shots of the city...
i remember when i saw a preview for shrek as a kid..it freaked me out. i thought it was really weird and a little scary looking? it took a lot of warming up to for me.

i'm hoping disney sticks to this theme of re-releasing their animated movies in 3D. maybe it will get hand drawn animation back on the map. it worked really well with beauty and the beast, that was my favorite 3D movie by far. i guess it worked though because they actually did use CGI to layer the hand drawn animations, which i thought was cool. it made it look like a pop-up story book in 3D.

i have to get a DVD collection of disney films again! ugh! all i have is lady and the tramp :\

haha went on a tangent here.

Right there with you, and I was born in the 90s. I grew up on all the Disney classics, and watching all the current films the studio is making today, there are times when I just feel like leaving the cinema, going back home, and going through my DVD collection for Snow White, Bambi etc.
