i like the long goodbye a lot more. i just love its 70s slightly stonerish charm.
chinatown is definitely held in higher esteem, but i've never quite fallen for it myself.
I remember both have some sudden unexpected violent moments which made me think of each movie.
In Chinatown it's when they smash up his nose and in The Long Goodbye it's when they smash the woman's face.
Both are classic neo-noirs with different aesthetics, but Chinatown is slightly better overall. The Long Goodbye doesn't take itself as serious, which makes it more rewatchable in my opinion.
