Loco continuity error

In the film the train which pulled into the station where the Danish schoolteacher (aka the Jackal) was waiting and boarded it, had a different front locomotive to a later shot of the train speeding through the French countryside.

If true, that's continuity error and not a plot hole.

I thought it might have switched engines at some point. I remember the Amtrack from Boston to NYC would have to do it.

They filmed the scenes at two different stations that were probably pretty far away from each other, and getting the same locomotive to both places probably would have been an expensive pain in the ass. I can totally see them deciding "Let's just use whatever locomotive is on hand near each station, nobody's going to care or even notice... except maybe one or two of the most anal retentive nerds who ever lived."
