Makes me think of Paper Moon
The black-and-white photography, the gypsy nature of the journey, the often cold and distant landscape, the man-child relationship, and both films being made around the same time, etc., really make these two films a nice double feature. Some of the plot points are similar too: the girl losing the mother, the man trying to find a home for the girl, the argument at the coffee shop, the girl running back to the man's car, and above all, the man serving as a kind of surrogate father/sibling.
