Brett is terrible

I love the Match Game and watch it every time it is on. However, it would be the perfect show if Brett had never been on. The Top 10 reasons she should have been removed.
1.She is ugly as homemade sin
2.That smoking causes her to look ugly and sound even worse.
3.She is so dumb, she has to look at her answer for a minute when she is called on just 10 seconds after she has written it down and turned it over.
4.She has to use 2 hands to put her card up. Is it that heavy?
5.She talks all during the time they answer, and it is never funny.
6.She always talks down to the beautiful women on the show. I want to see them not hear or see her.
7.She only got the job because they wanted her husband, Jack Clugman
8.She folds her answer card for minutes after she doesnt match, just put it in the slot already.
9.Betty White is a legend, you are not, she doesnt even deserve to be on the same stage.
10.Did I say she is is homely?

How DARE you make all of those insulting remarks about one of the 'sparks' who make "MG" the successful show that it was!

First off, I guess you forgot that Brett gave up smoking in 1977, and mentioned it on the show millions of times. So what if Brett doesn't have 'supermodel' looks - Richard Dawson, Elaine Joyce, and Patty Duke (to name a few) also smoked, but it didn't affect their looks any!

The reason that she 'got the job' was that Jack KLUGMAN didn't want to keep on doing the show, and it was the smartest move they made, because the "Sonny & Cher" banter between Brett and Charles Nelson Reilly was timeless!

Also, so what if she made a little fun of the 'new girls' - so did the other semi-regulars, who also got in on the act.

As for Betty White, the fun 'put down banter' between her and Brett was all in fun - if those one liners didn't exist, the show wouldn't have been nearly as funny.

One more thing - the woman knew how to laugh. That is one aspect of this show that drew me to it. I knew that once Brett started to laugh that everything was happy and good on the show.

I just think that you are jealous that you weren't on a successful show, or your remarks wouldn't have been so hateful to Brett - again, SHAME ON YOU!

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE! Brett is one of the best on the show and any show without her is just not quite right.

"I would also like to add that Betty White was not "famous" when she began Match Game and she was most definitely not a legend of any sort. She was talented and had done some TV programs, but she wasn't much more famous than Brett was at that point. She had just begun guest-starring on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and wasn't even close to beginning The Golden Girls. (Which most agree was her most popular role.)"

To say Betty White was not famous at that point is not at all true, she had about three shows up to that point (semi-popular) that have mostly sadly been lost to time. As a matter of fact, when they cast her as Sue Ann, the were looking for a "Betty White-type." Hmmmm....sounds famous to me. ;) LOL, but seriously, I agree with you on everything else. Brett DOES rock!! :)

That's true, but on the other hand Lucille Ball was a legend by the 70's and 80's and she was on "Password" and "Body Language"! LOL :-p ;)

Some people like to start trouble, any ways Shepard43,MP=Brett Summers,I could never seewhy the people always picked on Richard Dawson. I never found him funny,he was just 'there',Brett was super funny,Like who are you to judge people anyways? Are you Miss America? Brett has done some awome work after words her charity and everything. And by the way Betty White And Brett Summers are funny ladies and Should be on the samestage together.

reply

I can judge what is funny and ugly just as well as you. Giving to charity doesnt make you a good person or funny . Stick to the subject.

I am so sorry shepard43, but Brett one of the original "Broads" and for you to say that she does not belong on The Match Game is offensive to me. Broads are the rare breed that do not need to look or act like EVERY other woman to be famous or funny. They do not need plastic surgery to smooth out so-called "imperfections", to them it was called "CHARACTER". Character is one those things that so many people lack today. Brett is funny, witty, beautiful and kind. We could all learn a little from her. She and Charles and Richard had (if I may opine) some of the funniest interactions ever captured on a game show. Not to mention her interactions with the contestants and Gene Rayburn. The Match Game is one of my favorite shows, it would not be the same without her. To say it would be better without her is sacrilege. The double entendre that she feigned offense to is always fantastic, because she more than likely had a "dirty" answer. Perhaps it is a dry sense of humor that eludes you. And there is nothing wrong with that.

^ DITTO!!

Everything was about her. If any other woman got a laugh or a comment she had to do something outragiuos to get the spotlight back on her. Asking to have the question repeated was a favorite ploy to get the attention off the HOT panelist.

reply

I have great sence of humor, that is why I laughed at your idiot response. Brett was hoorible, degrading the panelist did show her lack of character.

reply

You are dumb.

reply

I always liked Brett. Loved her seat too, in between two guys.

As for all of this stuff listed about her, it's not that serious.

reply

If you haters don't like it, then don't *BLANK* it!

I agree with the OP and think most of the rest of you are insane. Brett was hideously untalented and annoying as hell.

1. I remember when, after Match Game went off the air, she said that Richard Dawson wasn't good looking, going so far as to say he was "sexy as a snail." I wanted to be like "Uh, Pot, have you met Kettle?"

2. She always needs the damn question repeated to her. Is she stupid, does she have short-term memory or what?

3. What is with all the theatrics of tearing your card in half? To draw even more attention to herself.

4. Betty White and Fannie Flagg are loads more talented and I just love when they hurl a wicked insult at her. She deserves it.

Also, I'll add these:

5. What the hell has this woman done? I seriously have never seen her in a movie, television show, commercial or anything. She's pretty much known as that lady who did Match Game.

6. She's kind of a bitch to the audience and constantly swears and insults them.

7. Can you say "Publicity whore?". I swear to God, this woman just revels in attention. Remember that lady who said "Cuckoo, Friend and Ollie?" and Brett just had to chime in with her retarted two cents to get the focus back on her by saying "I quit!". What was the purpose of that? So she gave a dumb answer, why does Brett want to quit?

8. I think the only thing that saved her was interactions with Gene and Charles, but it's been pretty well documented that they were also both major league ass-holes on and off the set as well, and like Brett, who knows them outside of MG? Richard Dawson was the nicest and it's no secret why all the contestants picked him and he had success outside of the show.

9. that annoying laugh. ugh.

Try not to use retarded as an insult. it's ignorant and cruel. It also makes you sound jr high.

She, along with Gene, Betty, CNR, and Richard made Match Game what it was.

Son, you got a panty on your head.

reply

Count me in with the Brett lovers.
I loved all the regulars, they were such a big part of the show. And she's just so Brett! Not gonna make any apologies for that, cause I don't think they're needed.
And I tend to match her as much as anybody else on the panel except for Richard.

reply

You match her the most? to paraphrase Chuck: you must be a very sick lady/guy.

Brett was good for the show and was a good sport being the butt of the joke.

reply

Brett is the only reason why I watch the re-runs.

reply

You can not even spell Jack Klugman's name correctly. You are in no position to call others stupid.

reply

OK. I've been watching Match Game and she's really getting on my nerves. She thinks we care about the thought processes that get her to her answer, which means that her answer is going to be wrong. Can't she listen when the question is being read the first time? Why does she need special attention from Gene? And most of all that cackle. Why do they leave her mic on? You don't hear anyone else's conversations. I'm sure she was a very nice person, but really hard to watch and listen to.

reply

If she's that bad, I wouldn't watch her. Look for those episodes before she became a regular.

reply

I understand the reason why people dislike Brett, because I disliked her in the '70's as a teen watching these episodes. But once I watched the reruns on the GSN, I began to laugh at her jokes because I understand her jokes better now. And the way her and Charles play off of one another is just as funny as Dawson.

Brett also made an effort to fill in the dead air when other people where busy writing, thinking or just didn't like talking. I don't like awkward silence, and dead air on TV or radio was always a huge blunder. So she always helped the show. She was married to Jack Klugman, and he recommended his ex-wife to take his place. Good choice I'd say. Today we would hire at least three comedians and one comedian professional to host the show if it went back into production today.

reply

Brett and Charles were great together and who didn't love Brett's 20 card answers.

Brett also worked with Gene, Betty and Fannie.

reply

Yeah she sure is bad and Rayburn is an annoying dufus, Dawson chain smokes on the air, Nelson-Riley looks like a homeless guy .....oh and the contestants just stumbled out of K Mart onto the set. Please bury these tapes in a time capsule for a hunderd years so none of us have to admit we ever watched this dreck.
