Best 'Third Man' of the Trio...

I would have to say Seymour followed by Foggy.

I liked how Seymour invented things and Compo would have to be the guinea pig.

Honestly, I like Truelove. Maybe it's because I know the actor from playing Captain Peacock, but I like him best.

reply

As much as I like Michael Bates, Michael Aldridge and Frank Thornton, Foggy Dewhurst, played by the late Brian Wilde, has to be the best third man!

reply

I'm up to series 4 now, and I like both Michael Bates and Brian Wilde.

reply

Foggy!!

reply

I think Truly then Seymore. Foggy was annoying and Blaymire wasn't on long enough for me to warm up to him.

That best episodes were the season plus three with Truly and Compo. Magic.

reply

Ah me, I love, love, love Frank Thorton! :) He just can do no wrong.

But with that said, I'm going to have to go with Foggy. Or maybe I can say both in different ways? Seymore wasn't bad, but I haven't seen much of his time. The first Third Man, I think, is my least favorite.

I like Truly (Frank Thornton)...and I loved Compo (Bill Owen)...But I have to admit I like the post-Compo episodes best...don't get me wrong...I love the older episodes, too...it's just that I'm young and I like Tom Simmonite...he is hilarious! My favorite line from him is from 2000 when Mrs. Avery and Barry were fighting and he says "Get closer Barry you're not on Email!" Best line in the series hands down IMHO lmao!

A movie to watch: "Defying Gravity"
Also: check out "Pathology".

reply

Oh, I'm only now watching Tom's first episodes. Never saw them before. I really haven't watched much of his time on the show, so I am definitly keeping an open mind.

It'd have to be Truly for me. The only thing I really liked about Foggy was the actor's voice and some of his lines. Overall the character just annoyed me somehow. I also kind of like Blamire even if he was a bit dull in comparison to some of the others.

reply

Foggy. His uptight nature next to Compo's lack of manners was a hilarious mix.

reply

I agree with AnnieBell: Foggy was the best. He was by far the funniest, especially when paired with Compo. Seymour was a close second. I never liked Truly. He was too bossy and I didn't think he was funny.

reply

Foggy and Hobbo are probably tied for number 1 in my book, followed by Seymour, then Truly. Only seen 1 Blamire episode all the way through, so not enough to go on with him.

Foggy for me, closely followed by Seymour.

reply

IMO, Foggy, played by Brian Wilde. Not that I have seen all of the episodes, so I can't really judge, but I loved Brian Wilde's performances.

reply

It's Foggy then Cyril Blamire.

reply

Hmmmm ... Foggy got too repetative ... too soon!

top 3 for me

No.1 Blamire
No.2 Seymour
No.3 Truly

But the true STAR of LOTSW ... was John Comer (Sid) sadly died in 1984

Foggy by a mile!

reply

Foggy! Not even a close contest! By far and away the funniest series featured Compo, Clegg and Foggy. Seymour was good, too. No-one else comes close to those two. The later series were a pale shadow of the show at its peak (although still entertaining in a very undemanding way).

FOGGY! Hes the man!
