One of the scariest movies ever

I saw this in 1972 in Enid, Oklahoma. I scared me then and it scares me now. Couldn't resist that. Now I'm in my forties and every now and then, I'll have a dream about it and I'm back in the 2nd grade, terrified all over again.
When I watch it now, it's very poorly done. But that's not the point. It's a reminder of my childhood when imagination ruled.
So no matter how it's panned, it's one of the scariest movies I've ever seen.
I'll probably have a dream about it now...ha ha

I remember the original VHS box looking really scary.

I was in high school when it came out (shown at all the small town drive-ins). I thought the trailer was pretty scary back then and the newspaper ads with the creature slumped over running always gave me the willies. I always wanted to go there to scout the area and see if it was for real. Even though I live in Western Tennessee I never have gotten to visit Boggy Creek. Maybe somebody will put up a webcam in the area. Anyway, I do know living in the boondocks you will hear some pretty damn strange noises at night.

I certainly wouldnt call this one of the scariest movies ever. Almost all the posts agreeing are from people who saw it as a kid and were scared of it back then, which isnt a real good judge of how scary a movie is. Kids are scared of lots of things.

Oh yeah, I was about 8 or so, this thing scared the living crap out of me. NO other movie has EVER gotten to me that way since. At least not in terms of scary.

I’m with you bluffcreek. (Love your screen name!) TLOBC has a certain power that’s hard to describe. It really worked wonders in its day and time. I think it holds up well, considering the low budget and acting.

Wow, after reading all these posts I can’t wait to see this film now!
