You have to understand the political atmosphere of Asia back then. The Japanese and Chinese were in a PR battle.

I think it's clear he loses the plot, so to speak, in investigating his master's murder and at a certain stage, just kills anyone who gets in his way.🐭

I agree, which makes the film seem somewhat confused with the way it seems to chant him on as a hero at the end with that bombastic theme blaring out. If anything, what he did caused more harm than anything else and he's clearly not right in the head.

Well - he did give some of the guys a chance to go, telling them to scram. They stayed to fight, so they died
