Which version of the DVD do you have?

Chinese Connection, I purchased the GOODTIMES version which came in a DVD 2 pack with Fists of Fury. The covers state that these are digitally remastered and in widescreen. What a freaking joke. They added black bars to the top and bottom of the screen in a lame attempt to make us think that it's in widescreen format. Did they think people wouldn't notice every time somebody's head disappeared off the top of the picture? Does anyone know how these compare to the quality of other relases. Especially the Hong Kong release which I was originally thinking of ordering from HKFlix.com (Fists of Fury and Big Boss). What about the Fox versions?

I have the version in Bruce Lee: Ultimate Collection. I also own this movie on VHS, under the title of The Chinese Connection.

I have the CBS FOX VHS versions of this, big boss and way of the dragon.Of course they are called Chinese Connection, FistS of Fury and Return Of The Dragon respectively. They are also english dubbed(which I don't really mind) and missing some scenes which were re-instated in later North American releases.

I have:

US:
CBS Fox (Bruce Lee The Master Collection boxset, fold-out accordion style)
CBS Fox (Bruce Lee The Master Collection boxset, regular case)
Fox (Bruce Lee Ultimate Collection)
Goodtimes Video (Bruce Lee and The Masters boxset)

UK:
Hong Kong Legends (Special Collector's Edition)
Hong Kong Legends (Thirtieth Anniversary Tribute)
Hong Kong Legends (Thirtieth Anniversary Commemorative Edition boxset)
Hong Kong Legends (Platinum Edition)
Hong Kong Legends (DeAugstini magazine version)

Australia:
Hong Kong Legends (Special Edition)

China:
Zoke Culture
Zoke Culture (Bruce Lee Transfer Classic boxset)

For picture and sound, the Fortune Star transfers are the best (US/HK Ultimate Collection, China Zoke Culture). US has 5.1/DTS for English, while HK/China has 5.1/DTS for Cantonese.

For extra features, the Hong Kong Legends dvd's are the best. The Special Collector's Edition, Thirtieth Anniversary Tribute, and Thirtieth Anniversary Commemorative Edition boxset all have the same content. The Platinum Edition has different extras than the other HKL dvd's. For the most extras, get the Platinum Edition and the Thirtieth Anniversary Commemorative Edition boxset (which has an exclusive bonus disc).

The Australian HKL Special Edition has the same content as the UK HKL Special Collector's Edition, Thirtieth Anniversary Tribute, and Thirtieth Anniversary Commemorative Edition, even though the box art is the same as the UK HKL Platinum Edition.

I just got the Front Row Entertainment release (from 2001) today. It is letterboxed. I don't think this is cropped since faces are quite clear unlike the GoodTimes release you just described. It looks and sounds pretty good considering the film's age. The sole extras are a Bruce Lee biography and Doldy Digital AC-3 audio. The other "extras" are common to most commercially available DVD's.
