Clint's fondness for depicting violence against women

A lot of his movies feature scenes that depict violence against women.

High Plains Drifter (Sorry--even if the woman was not blameless, it was still rape)

The Outlaw Josey Wales (the attempted rape of Sondra Locke)

Sudden Impact (Sondra Locke raped)

The Gauntlet (Sondra Locke again threatened with rape--I think--might be
wrong about this one

Pale Rider (attempted rape of Megan)

Tightrope (serial killer raping and murdering women)

Unforgiven (cutting of the prostitute at the beginning)

Absolute Power (Christy Sullivan is beaten, choked, shot)

Million Dollar Baby (women fighting in the boxing ring)

Mystic River (murder of Katie)

I'm sure there are others I am forgetting.

Oh, I get it.

Violence against men, perfectly fine.

Violence against women, not so fine.

That's right. You don't ever lay a hand on a woman.

How would you like someone to lay a hand on your mother or sister?

About as much as I would like it if they laid a hand on my father or brother.

But, your father or brother could take the hit cause they are men.

What if the man is bigger than my father or brother? What if he is a martial arts expert? What if he is a war veteran with 100 kills to his name? Is it still fair game?

You really are a complete idiot.

But all the gunplay is ok...sigh.

Not "fondness necessarily", but shrewdness. His movies have been by and large extraordinarily successful.

Nothing gets folks (particularly men who these films are aimed at) more riled up than violence against women, children, and animals (other than the finger-licking delicious kind).

If you want an avenger, you need to give him something to avenge.

It was the 70s for crying out loud!!
