I really enjoyed reading this book. I think it would be great if they redid this movie, because i think it would be something many teens would see. I know that drugs seem to be a very popular topic for high school and college students. The only thing I would really like to see is an accurate account of the direct after affect of a crash after using. does anyone else think this would be a good movie to remake? if so what would you like to see done with this story movie wise?
i was thinkin the same thing, i just read the book yesterday and thought that it would make a great film. who do you think should play the part of her?
ive read the book and watched the telemovie: im writing the screenplay! hehe, and im going to make it look like the telemovie is shakespeare... im tossing up between michelle tratchenberg, allison lohman, marley shelton, monika keener, lindsay lohan- *beep* u may think?
after ive finished, im going to write 2 catherine hardwicke and get her to direct! yeh, in my dreams...
Exactly! I spend a lot of time searching for the movie. And when I finally watched it I was soo thrilled until like 5 minutes later. I say way more San Francisco!!! More Chris, Sheilia. The blackout in her room is a real important thing. And ofcourse!! The hospital. That was THE most important event in her life.
as soon as i got into this book i knew it would make a great movie. i haven't found the movie yet so i haven't seen it, but i agree that this would be a huge hit for teens nowadays because a lot of us are interested in this kind of stuff. i think nikki reed, evan rachel wood, erika christensen, mena suvari or brittany murphy would all be good choices for this role.
I would actually love to see it updated to today, just with the same story, same character and events, ect... that could scare people into realizing that, despite how old the story is, it still applies to today. The only problem would be the drung- people don't really do acid anymore because of how seriously brain damaged all those people from the sixties are. Even junkies don't want to look and act like those people!

I saw the movie when it first came out. At that time there were really only 3 channels and I think every kid in school (I was in 7th grade or 8th grade) watched it. I lived in a small town (think Mayberry) and drugs were just starting to trickle in. I knew kids that said they "smoked pot" but didn't really believe them. We saw "those folks in California" on t.v. but we didn't have any of them.
We were much more innocent then and the movie scared the hell out of me. We had heard of people putting acid on stickers (the lickem stickem tattoos that came in bubble gum) and when you licked them you would "see bugs crawling out of your arms."
Of course our parents, teachers, any and all adults preached to us, warned us, threatened us and tried to scare us into not using drugs. The belief at the time was that if you smoked pot, pretty soon the high wouldn't be high enough and you'd move on to harder stuff and eventually you'd end up in an alley with a needle in one arm and "bugs crawling out of the other one." The other thing they told us was that "we'd think we could fly and jump off a roof."
That movie made more of an impression on me than any lectures. I have always said that it is the main reason I never did drugs. By the time I was in high school, drugs had hit our town and were available to people that bothered to find them, not like today when they are everywhere.
I made it all the way thru the 80's and can honestly say I never snorted, or used cocain, in any fashion. I credit "Alice" with that as much as anybody.
I don't think they could "update" a "re-make" of Alice's story. They could "update" the story and set it in this time or they could "re-make" Alice's story and set it in the 70's with the hippy history/innocence/ignorance of drugs and their effects... of that time, but they can't bring "Alice" into the 2000's.
I haven't seen the movie in years but I've read the book a couple of times, actually in the past year. I only remember bits and pieces of the movie but I'd like to see it again and take a walk down memory lane. I'd like to see how it holds up now, but the impression it made on me at the time is already set.
Don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff.
If they were to remake the movie I would they wouldn't try to update it by making it al modernized like having "alice" addicted to meth or something (all though that would be interesting for another movie). I think they should just set it in the 70s and stay as truthful to the story as much as they can. As I read the book I imagined the character being played by Kate Mara(Nip/Tuck).
Having way too much time on my hands, I actually made up a cast of for my own version of a Go Ask Alice movie...
Narrator ('Alice')- Ellen Page/Alison Lohman/Alison Pill Father ('Mr. Jones')- Robert Patrick Mother ('Mrs.Jones')- Ellen Birkin Grandmother- Gena Rowlands Joel- Joseph Gordon Levitt Chris- Me (I would just love to be in the movie!) Tim- Slade Pearce Alexandria- Bella Thorne Roger- Joseph Cross Sheila- Ashley Green/Megan Fox Ritchie- Sean Faris Ted- John Patrick Amedori Lane- Will Denton Mr. Mellani- Oliver Platt Dr. Miller- Edward Norton Jan- Nikki Reed Babbie- Kandis Erickson Greta- Carly Schroeder Fawn- Blake Lively Doris- Daviegh Chase Jan- Kristen Stewart Beth- Zoe Wizenbaum
