My favorite line in this movie

This movie is my favorite John Wayne movie of all time(Just ahead of sons of katie elder). My favorite line in this movie is when Dern says to Wayne...."Do I look like a man that'd hit a small boy"(Or something to that effect). Waynes line after that is my favorite("You Look Like the Vermon Ridden Son Of A Bitch That You Are"). Hehehe....love that line.

Shut up and pour

reply

"...take everything but the fire!"

reply

My favorite is "forgive me for the men I've killed in anger and those I am about to", however I have to think "we're burnin' daylight" has got to be the most popular quote.

I don't have an opinion. The word "opinion" implies the possibility I'm wrong.

"Bbbuuttt I ttrriieed to ttelll you." Stuttering cowboy Bob after Robert Carradine almost drowns in river.
"TRYING DON'T GET IT DONE!" Wil Andersen
I LOVE to say trying don't get it done when someone doesn't
follow through on something [ )

Wil Andersen to Long Hair -
"If you won't respect your elders then you'll respect your betters."

Wasn't that Big Jake?

reply

Yup. Right before he threw his son (in the move, and also IRL) into the mud puddle.

..Joe

I wouldn't make it a habit of callin' me that, son

When he's talkin to the teacher. and says, "I have nothing to say to young ladies."

And when his hired hands show up late and he says that they need to get an ingersol watch. I don't remember the exact quote.

reply

..."because gentlemen that's when school REALLY begins." I remember seeing this movie at one of the local drive-ins when I was about 12. One of my all time favorite westerns.

There are so many good lines in this movie.

A big mouth don't make a big man.

WCBS-FM morning news always transitions into the music at 7am with

"Slap some bacon on a biscuit and let's go!

We're burning daylight !"

Love that line and it gets me pumped up to get to work!

reply

My fav. line is ''It's not how you're buried, it's how you're remembered''
Then that line is tied to in the end when the boy utters ''we're burning daylight'' Love it.

This movie is filled with great lines, most of which have been cited by other posters. One I've always liked is:

Mrs Andersen: "When I go to bed every night, I'll think of you."
Andersen: "You do and you won't sleep."

Anyone who's been married for 30 or more years can appreciate that line.

I gotta go with Nightlingers follow up to his story about his "Brawny Moor" father, who killed everyone in a castle so he and his wife could rest. The one nervous cowboy asks, "Is that true...?" to which Nightlinger replies with a matter-of-fact shrug, "Well if it isn't, it ought to be"!
Nothing like getting called on a little posturing and not giving a crap!

reply

The Duke's line.
"I wouldn't get in the habit of calling me that son."
