about the Nazis and Maz, when last we saw him he playfully said to Max, "still think you can control them?" and he agreed to the Africa trip.

(I read some of the other posts, it seems the TV version I saw trimmed a scene where Max is angry when he drops B off)

The movie does not explain time lapses very well, but sometimes months go on between two different scenes.

For example in one scene Max drops Brian off at the apartment and they simply exchange friendly glances, and then in the next scene he admits that he's been fucking him. That had to have been a long time "coming", excuse the pun.
