The Waltons farm would be a noisy place to visiit

There's a sawmill there going day and night. All you'd hear is that saw going off nonstop and all the hammering. They always show visitors finding peace and serenity there, but it wouldn't be anything of the sort. And while I certainly enjoy the smell of fresh cut lumber, that ain't for everybody.

They wouldn't be sawing on a continually basis. Probably spending much more time out cutting down the trees and bringing them to the saw mill than they spent using the saw at the mill. And I doubt they would be using a saw mill at night, using a saw mill when you had less than good lighting would be a great way to have accidents happen and pretty soon the Waltons would all be running around with fewer fingers and hands than they were born with.

From what I saw (no pun intended) it took forever to where a saw blade actually wore out. 2 out of every three episodes was about them getting by due to lack of work for the mill. Even with the mill working they took breaks for meals and the kids home work plus believed in no working on Sunday. I don't remember one episode where John and Grandpa were out there working at the crack of dawn. It's almost like there was not a Depression going on.
