Harold and Maude weren't the nicest people

Hey how is everyone doing? Been a while since I wrote a message so I decided to do on on a movie I just watched again recently. Harold and Maude hadn't seen it in years . Some things I never thought about until now

Frist off I think Harold and Maude is a classic. Something new in different for the time. Hal Ashby was up their with the big guns of the time Coppola , Scorsese, Lucas. yet his movies never got quite the attention they did. He to me was more of a Indi type filmmaker. Gets lots of praise, recognition but never as much mainstream success. Ashby to me was more about making little films about real people stories. Getting as much about for the actors, performances. Making the audience feel something for his characters. Real life people you'd say I could see them out on the street.

Harold and Maude was pretty new different for it's time. I read that it flopped when it came out The idea that a 20 year old man and a 80 year woman grossed people out big time so it didn't do well. I loved it got the feeling or message was that we don't have to always accept conform to what everyone around us says we have to do, we can do our own things also. what others think as disgusting or sick, others can find hippieness, joy As long you're not hurting anyone I got from the movie. Be yourself make you're own journeys

Now just a few things I got from watching the movie recently that turned me off some but nothing to big. let me know what you guys think. First off Harold is a adult not a kid. He isn't working or going to college. Just hanging for now. His mom lets him stay rent free. He should be growing up. Putting on fake suicide attempts come on that s when you're a kid. He has no respect for his mom. she buys him a nice car- he messes it up and flips he off when she walks away. I did that living at my parents house after school was done, I'd be thrown out on my ass! She is nice enough to find him some dates. what does he do? His stupid immature pranks. All he should have did was say "mom stop trying to set me up". His mom should have thrown his ass out. You're not working or going to school get out! At some point you have to grow up.

Next is wonderful Maude. She is supposed to free spirited, loving, fun, accepting. she steals peoples cars! When the priest calls her out on it. She laughs and drives away! Sorry Maude isn't a nice person. You steal my car you're gong to jail. The cops pull her over and tell he to get out. She just takes off. I guess Ashby didn't have much respect for law enforcement because he made them all look dumb and incompetent In real life they would have traced down the license plates numbers arrested Maude and told Harold find some new friends! Stealing isn't right. I didn't like the whole army scene either. That was cartoonish and over the top. didn't go with the movie. I don't know what Ashby was trying to go with there.

Well that's about it. didn't want to make this to long. Hey you all liked my message. Please feel free to writer back when you can. Anything you want to state or different opinion go for it. I still like Harold and Maude new different type of film for it's time. I just liked Ashby's later works like Shampoo, Last Detail , Coming Home. They weren't as cartoonish or over the top. Great film Licorice Pizza from Paul Thomas Anderson I could se a lot of Ashby feel, style. Took you back to how it was living in 1972-the year I was born! A simple story with real life characters nothing real deep. Looked like people you'd see out on the street. Take care everyone peace.
