Is this worth seeing?
I love all of Sergio Leone's films but I haven't seen this, mainly because it is his least famous film and doesn't appear to be as highly praised as his other films. Is this worth buying?

shareIf you're a Leone fan then it's a must have. It fills the gap between Once upon a time in the West and Once Upon A Time in America. Actually this is also known as Once upon a Time the Revolution (in France), which would make this sort of the middle part of Leone's Once upon "trilogy".
Be sure to get the restored, full version. As a fan you'll be greatly rewarded.
If you're new to Leone I recommend to start with The Good The Bad The Ugly, then -depending on your taste- the dollar films or Once Upon a Time in the West, followed by either Fistful of Dynamite or Once upon a Time in America.
A true epic, probably my favorite Leone (not saying it's his best, but to me it's his most rewarding film)
Yes, this is an amazing film. But be warned - the trailer is very misleading. It makes the movie look like a comedy, but in reality it's the exact opposite. By far Leone's deepest and darkest film.

One word: YES.
IMHO, tho I love the Man-With-No-Name trilogy, especially THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY, the Once-Upon-A-Time trilogy (which, if it had been released with the intended title ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE REVOLUTION, it would be clear DUCK, YOU SUCKER is the central part) is Leone's masterpiece.
Happy viewing.
You read it here. Now go forth and preach it!
yes yes yes. I borrowed it from a friend and afterwards I bought it. It is my favorite Leone film and 1 of my favorites all time.
YES.
If you come across it in the bargain bucket for £2.95 in your local Co-Op, like I did just today, then yes, it's definitely worth handing over your hard-earned/ill-gotten.

I liked it (not loved).
It is not his best film for me, but it was still good. 8/10

well i have not seen this film yet but if it's anything like the other Sergio Leone Westerns i have seen it's EASILY worth watching.
i personally think 'Once Upon A Time In America' (8/10, but if i had to choose a 7 or 9 i would say 7) is a little overrated.... it's no where near the 'masterpiece' people claim it is... i think his films like 'The Good The Bad & The Ugly' and 'Once Upon A Time In The West' are far better (those two i consider masterpieces (10/10) myself)
but as people have said... it all depends on your tastes as to which you would prefer be it the Western's or 'Once Upon A Time In America' (im a big fan of gangster films but this was pretty weak in that dept)
so bottom line for me i think Leone is at his best when doing 'Westerns' ;) ... so based on that it's almost guaranteed ill like 'A Fistful of Dynamite' ;)
p.s. 'A Fistful of Dynamite' is making it's debut on AMC in less than 24hours from now (8PM EST Jan18th 2009 on AMC in USA) ... but i just got a hold of a copy a few moments ago so ill probably be watching this within the next week or so. (i never seen the film yet)
EDIT: i just got done seeing it and it's not as good as i expected it to be cause i had a high standard for Leone Westerns but this one dont have the magic like The Good The Bad & The Ugly/For A Few Dollars More/A Fistful of Dollars(the worst of the 4 films listed)/Once Upon A Time In The West (all are pretty much 10/10 besides 'A Fistful of Dollars' which i gave a 8-9/10 (i went with a 9 though) does.
bottom line i gave 'A Fistful of Dynamite' a 6/10 (7/10 MAX!)... 'overall' it's much weaker than i expected it to be... i think alot of it has to do with the actors as they just aint as strong (Coburn was solid but just about everyone else was fairly weak especially the LEAD actor besides Coburn (i dont know his name, i think Rod Steiger is his name )) as the other Leone Westerns i listed.... which is why i think at the end of the day that this film dont get the praise like the other 'popular' ones do.... and maybe it's just me or does this film seem to try to duplicate those 'moments' with the music etc like Once Upon A Time In The West does, but it dont pull it off.
as for the question of 'Is it worth seeing?" ... overall i say NO, cause if your expecting it to be top notch like the other Leone Westerns you will probably be disappointed like i was.... but it's also not a bad movie either and it 'might' be worth a single watch but im fairly sure it's nothing i would really go out of my way to view again on DVD etc... it's not bad for a 'TV Movie' though.

I just watched it and I say YES it is worth watching.
shareNot to build up your expectations or anything, but it's my favorite western film.
Get yer stupid fvckin rope
I'll get my stupid rope...I'll get it
You know, it really annoys me when people post questions here like "is this worth seeing", or "is my child too young for this film?". How lazy can you be; go rent it and see for yourself!
