At the end of DAF, Blofeld was declared dead on the oil rig (it’s not established until FYEO that he somehow survived). Therefore if this were to take place before OHMSS, Bond and M would have thought Blofeld was dead therefore they would not have been looking for him.

That must be the lamest death of the entire franchise. Any franchise.
Indeed it is a lame death. I mean this is supposed to be Bond’s ultimate arch nemesis and they don’t even get a proper final confrontation.
Now that I think about it, there have been 2 times that the Bond Franchise has done a “Bond goes on a revenge quest to avenge the death of his true love that he was going to quit the service for” (Diamonds are Forever and Quantum of Solace) and BOTH times it was beyond lame.
Why would anyone think it takes place before OHMSS?
It opens with Bond taking revenge (so he thinks) on Blofeld for killing his wife.
The assertion is: Well You Only Live Twice ends in the Far East and Diamonds Are Forever begins in the Far East. It’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of.
