Jill St. john

I can't believe that no one has pointed out how hot she looked in this movie

Probably because of Lana Wood.

She looked good for sure but I found her one of the least appealing of all the Bond girls. Not a very good actress either, though the scene at the fuel bowser is entertaining.

Lana Wood is definitely the reason why people don't mention Jill St John as much. Both were gorgeous though

Ay chihuahua! Jill St. John is not my favorite Bond girl (that would be Daniela Bianchi), but she is a close second. She is gorgeous, and seeing her in the bikini at the climax [insert sniggering comment here] made my adolescence much more bearable. Granted, she has never been a great actress, but she is serviceable [insert sniggering comment here], and I think she makes a worthy foil for Bond here.

Kudos for mentioning what needed to be said.

In my way of looking at the franchise, there are "Bond girls" and there are "Bond girlettes." The former are the main girl in the story, the one who gets closest to Bond and usually makes it through the film. The latter are the filigree, the ones with the small parts [and in the case of Lana Wood, insert vociferous objection about "small parts" here] who interact with Bond briefly compared to the main Bond girl.

Lana Wood is very pretty and very well-endowed (her sister Natalie was flat-out gorgeous), but Jill has still got it over Lana [insert gratuitous girl-on-girl reference here] six ways to Sunday.

"What is this a pervert's convention?"

Seriously though, I bet it's the red hair. I personally would have liked her more had she kept one of those wigs on. And unlike Bond I don't think the cuffs and collar have to match!

reply

Nice little nothing she almost wore.

I think the key is she was sexy without having to be a hardbodied barely twenty-something. It matched up better with Connery's older Bond.

reply

Even the wigs could not save her from becoming the ugliest Bond girl in history.

As Bond said to Draco, "You must give me the name of your oculist." Jill is one of the sexiest Bond girls, ever, and her entrance is my second favorite behind Ursula Andress. She was a classic 60s bombshell type finally getting a chance at a Bond film after being stuck in one of the worst knockoffs "The Liquidator" a few years earlier and it was the last point in time when someone of her era could fit credibly into the Bond world as the tone would change in the 70s.

Nth ink Jill St. John did a good job with the role.

You couldn't be more wrong about Jill St. John. She was an incredibly sexy woman. I urge you to watch her in Sinatra's Tony Rome from a couple of years earlier and still think she is ugly.

reply

Yes, but if only she'd kept her mouth closed. One of the 3 lamest Bond girls of all time (with Denise Richards and Tanya Roberts).

Thank you for starting the thread. I'm surprised at how many people seem to disagree with you (and now, me). I've always thought that Jill St. John was one of the most gorgeous actresses that I've ever seen - she's certainly in my top ten. Not only did she have the looks, but she was just tremendously sexy! Plus, she is said to be very brainy (which I also find very sexy!).

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I understand that not everyone would be on board, but I'm still astounded by the lack of appreciation for Ms. St. John. She is one of the few women that I've ever actually regarded as "stunning." To your point, yes she was hot in this movie, but I think that she was hot in pretty much all of her movies!

To the naysayers: Was she one of the most accomplished actresses working in Hollywood during the sixties and seventies? Well, perhaps not, but then I always found myself so overcome with her beauty that I'd forget to analyze her acting skills anyway! As a result, her acting ability, or lack thereof, never bothered me. Actually, I think her acting was just fine for what was asked of her (I love her often languid delivery). After all, she was never given a truly juicy role that would've allowed her to either greatly impress us, or show herself to be out of her depth. All in all, she had a nice, lengthy Hollywood career.
