Sean Connery looks like he's aged 10 years since his last outing, and the music and tone feels very different from the 60s bonds. It almost feels like a Roger Moore film.
And while this isn't connery's finest hour, it's still miles ahead of any brosnan films, and even some of Daniel Craig bonds.
People say it feels different, but it was filmed by Ted Moore, who did the first 4 Bond films (Dr. No through Thunderball) and later did Live and Let Die and The Man With the Golden Gun
Ken Adam is the production designer, same guy who did Dr.No, Goldfinger, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice
And John Barry did the music, same fellow who did the first 6 films
Like domester82 said I think they were trying to distance themselves from OHMSS. Which is really sad since OHMSS is my favorite film in the series and DAF is a real let down as a follow up.
I find it kind of odd or ironic that one of the reasons why Connery initially resigned from the franchise following YOLT was because he wanted more character development (and not just play Bond as an unflappably cool superman) and yet, we finally get a more "human" Bond story one movie later. And then when Connery comes back, it's in quite frankly, one of the silliest and campiest movies of the whole Bond canon .
It had a very light hearted, campy feel. It was the start of the Moore era even before Moore became Bond. Call it the times I guess. 70s were campy and cheese, today is dark and serious. Connery looks out of shape, fat, and disinterested in this movie too.
I feel sorry for you if you think the celebration of The Lord Jesus Christ is campy. Civilized people do not denigrate any religion, even if they do not believe in it. At worst, they keep their mouths shut.
And while this isn't connery's finest hour, it's still miles ahead of any brosnan films
Except Goldeneye, that one is awesome. But I'd probably watch DAF over the other Brosnan films. Definitely over the last two but Tomorrow Never Dies is OK.
