shareI got a dvd copy yesterday and I’ll be watching it this weekend.
sharei tried to watch it - it has a 1970s feel about it even though it' s suppose to be 17th century.
shareThat does not sound good. I especially hate a WWII movie where the soldiers have feathered hair cuts, that is if it’s to be taken seriously.
shareI just finished and your right, there is a bit of 70’s vibe flowing through it. This was particularly so with the appearance of Father Barre, with his glasses and hairstyle looking quite out of place. If you can get over those things it’s actually a compelling film in my opinion. It’s visually stunning and speaks to the darker side of religion, politics and the nature of man. I’m not sure if you finished it, but the ending was spectacular. I’m actually excited about a second viewing.
shareI found a copy of it and am watching it now again after we talked about it. There are some scenes I had totally forgot about, but the 70s vibe didn't really bother me at all.

Ken Russell may have gone off the rails during the next few years, but this film and the charming "The Boy Friend" prove that he was indeed a real talent. Once.
I watched it today and thought it was wild and intense with good performances. 8/10 is my rating.
