Great Movie...Lousy Theme Song

Sure a WWII movie, with a Hippy pot-smoker theme song?

Nope.

Other than that the movie is awesome.

Listen to the lyrics. The song is about missed opportunities and lost friendships.

I loved the film AND the theme song, Burning Bridges. They fit the mood of the late sixties and early seventies; and, considering the anti-drug stance taken by the song’s co-writer. Mike Curb, Burning Bridges could’ve been written as a warning to those of us who might’ve been tempted to burn some relationship bridges by over indulging in drug use at a time when drugs were all around on us on college campuses.

Both of the offbeat war films, M*A*S*H (in March) and Kelly’s Heroes (in June), were released in 1970, and both featured Donald Sutherland in great roles that made me feel like Hawkeye Pierce and Sergeant Oddball were blood relatives. Now, whenever I watch Animal House, I think that college professor Dave Jennings (another one of Donald Sutherland’s great roles) must’ve come from the same family tree as Hawkeye Pierce and Sergeant Oddball.

If it is what it is, what is it?

If you don't get the theme song you don't get the movie.

You are right it was a great film. As well the theme song was right on the mark. Best line in the film is what the world should be doing right now. Quote by Don Rickels "make a deal" "a deal deal"

Great theme song but didn't fit the movie at all. Don't know how they chose it but as usual it was probably who knows who not whether it fits the film. This movie was also made during the music changeover during the early seventies, so it just might have been a selection the producers thought would appeal to the young folk. It doesn't fit but it's one thing I always remember about the film.

I love it, it gives me chills listening to it while watching. It fits the point of the movie perfectly.
