who reckons which film is better...le cercle rouge (1970) or rififi (1955)... theyve both got the same sort of storyline and the silent heist scenes in both movies are extraordinary. I personally think they're both equal. I think maybe le cercle rouge was better, but i honestly dont know. theyre both great french movies
shareI appreciate Melville's artistry. The guy was an ARTIST. He made the films, he wanted to make, the way he wanted to make them.
Dassain was more commercial and more of a hack frankly. BUT, I like Riffi more. Its more geared to people who want plain old entertainment.
I feel guilty for being for so Shallow but I like Riffi more. BTW, I like Le Samourai better than either of them.
Great comparison. I'd take Le cercle rouge, though. I just really like the way it was shot and the first 30 minutes of Rififi could have been trimmed down.
