Did They Decide To Die Fighting On Purpose?

Question about the fate of the four at the end:

So they kill the sleazy general who kills Angel. Yet nobody else shoots at them. So why didn't they just walk away then?

It seems like they decided to do what they did on purpose. Am I right?

I love this movie and the finale is my favorite gun battle ever filmed, but I sincerely doubt that all four of them, particularly the hedonistic Gorch brothers, would have been so enthusiastically united about engaging in a suicidal battle with 200 Mexican soldiers.
